Our trying to conceive journey!

We decided we were ready for baby number two after Jessalyn's second birthday. I was planning on getting my birth control removed anyway from a few complications I had just recently started having from it. That was when we decided it was really time.

I wasn't sure how long it was going to take us since Jess was a surprise. So this was going to be our first attempt at actually trying to conceive. I got my birth control removed in the middle of November. I didn't have a period for the whole two years since Jess was born because of nursing the whole time and because of my birth control. So I had a feeling it might take us a while since I'm sure everything had to regulate and get back to normal.

We decided to start 'trying but not trying' at the end of November. We just wanted to go with the flow and whatever happened happened without a lot of stress of actually trying. Of course my cycle was completely off and I was spotting every two weeks for the first month. Then I got nothing for a few weeks so I took about 2 or 3 pregnancy tests to see if pregnancy was a possibility. But they were all negative. A month had past with out any spotting or periods and all I got were negative pregnancy tests. So I figured everything was just all messed up from just recently getting my birth control removed so I decided to make an appointment to my midwife to talk to her about what I should do to regulate my period again since we were trying to conceive.

We spent our 6th wedding anniversary on January 14 at hotel for a few days. I was a little more tired than usual and was feeling a little nauseous after everything I ate but I really didn't think anything of it. My appointment with my midwife was the day after our anniversary on January 15. I figured I was just going to talk to her about what was going on and she was going to give me a few ideas about what to do. I waited what seems like forever in that waiting room. Watching all these pregnant moms and moms with their newborn babies. Finally the nurse took me back and asked all the usual questions. Then she sent me to pee in a cup. Just a standard thing at the doctors office. I went and sat back in the room and waited some more. A few minutes later the nurse walked in with a pregnancy test in her hand and said "We did a pregnancy test and it came out positive. Do you want to keep it?" I was shocked of course. That was not what I was expecting at all. All I remember saying was "are you serious?!" And took the test from her hand. Once my midwife came in and congratulated me. We then calculated my estimated due date to be September 9.

I didn't tell Jordan right away. I wanted to see him so I could show him the pregnancy test. I talked to him on the phone as soon as I left and told him I was given something to regulate my period and I would show him what it was when I saw him. I had the test wrapped in a paper towel and when I met up with him later and told him to look at what my midwife gave me. So he unwrapped and was a bit confused. Then I told him to look at it again closely. Then he figured it out and was as shocked as I was! Neither of us expected it to happen so soon. But of course we were extremely excited!

Stay tuned for part two. The first few months of my pregnancy.

Old Wives Tales

I don't believe in old wives tales considering a lot of them were wrong with Jess. According to them she should have been a boy. Haha. But I still think they are fun even though there isn't any truth to them. Here are what the old wives tales are saying about baby #2's gender so far.

Old Wives' Tale #1: Carrying low it's a boy, carrying high it's a girl.

I think I'm carrying pretty much the same as last time. I'm just a little rounder this time than last. So I guess you can say girl for this one?

Old Wives' Tale #2: Heart rate. Under 140 it's a boy, over 140 it's a girl.

At my last appointment the heart rate was over 140.

Old Wives' Tale #3: Skin and hair. Both looking good? It's a boy. Broken out and dealing with lifeless, dull hair? Girl, because apparently they "steal your beauty."

This one is funny because last time with Jess I had no skin or hair problems. I actually 'felt' pretty the whole pregnancy. So that wasn't true for my first pregnancy. This time my skin isn't at it's best. My hair feels fine. But overall I haven't been feeling all that pretty lately. So I guess this one can go either way.

Old Wives' Tale #4: Chinese Gender Chart. Not necessarily an "Old Wives' Tale"

This one says girl.

Old Wives' Tale #5: Morning sickness. None, it's a boy. Sick, it's a girl.

I was nauseous 24-7 my whole first trimester. Which was completely opposite from last time. I wasn't sick at all. So this one can go either way.

Old Wives Tale #6: Craving sweets? Decorate that nursery in pink. Demanding sour pickles? Spend more time brainstorming boy names.

Last time I craved mostly sweet stuff. This time so far I mostly want salty and sour food. So this one would be boy.

Old Wives Tale #49: Headaches. If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy.

I've had head aches all the time! I don't remember having headaches this much last time.

And what is my motherly instinct gut feeling saying? This pregnancy has been completely different from last time. So based off of that, I would be surprised if this baby isn't a boy. But we have to wait and see! And I'm so impatient. I want to know who this little jelly bean is!

Happy Easter!

We had a fun filled Easter weekend. On Saturday we went on a little egg hunt with some friends. She didn't care too much about finding eggs because all she wanted to do was play on the swings and slide. Then it started raining so we had to cut it short.

Sunday morning, Jess woke up to this Easter basket. Her obsession lately is anything Princess so of course there was princess stuff in it.
She got to look through her basket before church and loved everything. Of course she wanted to eat all the candy right away.
Penny wanted in on all the basket action too. She got her own basket filled with little dog treats.
Jess even helped mommy and daddy check out their baskets too.

She was so excited after I put her Easter dress on. She thought she looked just like a Princess and kept spinning around in circles. After church we came home to change so we could go to James and Heather's for dinner. But she did not want to take her dress off. She wanted to keep it on to show RoRo her princess dress.
I tried to get some pictures of her in her dress and the only way I could keep her occupied to take a few was to give her some cheese. Haha.

After her mini photo shoot we went over to her cousins to go hunt for some eggs.
This time she was into it a lot more and got excited every time she found an egg.
The boys had a lot of fun but we had to keep making sure they weren't picking up all the easy ones laying on the ground.

These two are the best of friends!
And here was the best attempt I got at getting a picture of the four of them together. Haha.

I hope everyone had a great Easter!
