Jess caught the dreaded stomach bug I have been desperately trying to avoid. She woke up wednesday night at about 1 am tossing and turning then threw up about every hour or so until about 8 that next morning. It was a long night for us waking up trying to catch her vomit in a bowl half asleep. Thursday during the day she seemed to be a little better. She played a little and ate a few snacks. Then the next night was another long night of on and off vomit through out the night into Friday morning. I sensed something wasn't right that evening. She literally didn't leave the couch or me the whole day and was in and out of sleep. She didn't eat anything the whole day except for a Popsicle. We thought we were doing a good job of keeping her hydrated. I told myself if she wasn't any better by the morning I was going to take her into the ER.
That next morning came and she was acting the same as the day before and fussing a lot. I knew she should be better by now if it wasn't anything serious. So I got us dressed and we went to the children's hospital down the road.
After getting checked and getting some blood drawn, which wasn't fun at all, I was right. The dr came in and explained that she was dehydrated and her levels were so low that they wanted to keep her in the hospital. Of course I felt like a bad mother and thought of the things I could have done to prevent it. We had to wait in the emergency room for about 8 hours until a room opened up for her. We watched a lot of Dora and doc mcstuffins while we waited.
Once we got up to the room we watched some more Dora and lots of barney. We weren't allowed out of the room so we were paging the nurses a lot for new movies and more snacks. We both slept on a very uncomfortable bed couch thing. I think she slept better than I did. And we had to be careful not to get tangled up in her IV cords. The sound of her IV machine was not very fun to listen to trough out the night along with the newborn baby crying next door to us.
That next morning she was feeling a lot better. She was eating and drinking and they unhooked her IV to see how she did staying hydrated on her own. I knew she was feeling better when she was being her silly self and climbing all over the furniture and playing with all the doors. Even pretending the mini fridge was a room for her baby doll and kept putting her in there and telling her she will be back. Haha. We were finally released on Sunday evening. She was pretty excited she got to finally go in the car as go home to see her puppy. She let the nurse take out her IV and was happy when she got a cool neon green bandaid. The nurse walked us out and she let Jess push all the buttons for the elevator. Then she happily waved bye bye. She has been doing great back home and is 100 percent back to her rambunctious self.

Oh, I'm so sorry, sweetie! We had the same thing happen when Ezra was a baby when he got sick with rotavirus. He wouldn't keep anything down, even after rehydrated in the hospital, so we had to stay for a few days until he could keep liquids down. It really sucks, I know! Also, that was TOTALLY not your fault! Kids get sick and dehydrated, that's life. You were doing the absolute best you could!
If anything its more my fault cause I told you not to go in, but your motherly instinct told you to go in and you were right. So no one can ignorantly call you out as a bad mother even if they wanted to. This was just different and worse than what she got before, so its more likely that nothing could have helped her stay hydrated but an IV.
